BIOPREN Pharaoh Ant Bait - the effective solution for indoors!
The BIOPREN Pharaoh Ant Bait is a ready-to-use bait can specially developed for controlling pharaoh ants. Each bait can contains 2.5 g granulate with the active ingredient S-Methoprene (5 g/kg), an insect growth regulator. By acting directly in the nest, it hinders the queens in egg laying and disrupts larval development.
This way, the ant colony usually dies off after about 12-14 weeks. The bait cans are housed in a transparent station, allowing good observation of acceptance and consumption. For sustainable success, the bait should remain on site for at least 3 months, even if the ants disappear earlier.
The 24-pack (2.5 g per can) is especially suitable for large-scale use, e.g., in kitchens, supply facilities, hotels, hospitals, or generally rooms where pharaoh ants occur.
We are happy to assist in identifying the ant species present at your location. Please feel free to contact us by email for this.
Instructions for use of ant bait stations
- Placement: Position bait station along ant trails, with opening facing up or to the side, but not directly on the ant trail. Ideally suited for kitchen, bathroom and other affected rooms.
- Dosage: 2 bait stations per 20 m² area.
- Duration of effect: The bait works for 10–14 weeks. For optimal results, stations should remain unchanged for at least 3 months – even if the ants disappear earlier.
- Replacement: Replace station if heavily emptied, damaged, or soaked.
-
Important: Do not use other insecticides simultaneously! Avoid contact with water.

Details about the Pharaoh ant:
Identification features
- Size: very small, workers about 2 mm long
- Color: yellowish to reddish with dark tip of abdomen
- Queens: larger (3.5–4.5 mm), often reddish
- Risk of confusion: with other small ant species
Occurrence
- Originally tropical, but widespread worldwide
- Only viable inside heated buildings in Central Europe
- Typical infestation sites: hospitals, nursing homes, laboratories, large kitchens, bakeries, residential houses
- Prefers nesting in hidden cavities: electrical installations, door frames, under baseboards, etc.
Biology & behavior
- Extremely colony-intensive: multiple queens per nest → polygyny
- Rapid reproduction: through colony division → polydomy
- Hidden lifestyle: nests hard to find
- Diet: Omnivore – protein, sugar, fats, dead insects, food scraps
- Particularly problematic: Can spread pathogens in sensitive areas (e.g., hospitals)
Challenges in control
- Normal contact insecticides often only cause displacement → colony splitting
- Control with bait is required
- Long-lasting baits for nest elimination
- Discreet application is important to ensure bait acceptance
- No disturbance of ants (e.g. by cleaning or contact insecticides), as this triggers a flight reflex
Recommended procedure
- Thorough infestation assessment: Sightings, sticky traps, bait monitoring
- Use of suitable feeding baits: e.g. gel baits with delayed effect
- Targeted bait placement: On runways, in hiding places, preferably close to heat sources
- Long-term control: Over weeks, possibly months, even after individual ants disappear
- Monitoring: Continue for months after elimination to detect reinfestation early
The BIOPREN Pharaoh ant bait station is the targeted, sustainable solution against Pharaoh ants (Monomorium pharaonis) in kitchens, supply facilities, hotels, hospitals, nursing homes, laboratories, bakeries and residential buildings. The insect growth regulator S-Methoprene (5 g/kg) acts in the nest: it inhibits the egg laying of the queens and disrupts larval development – thus the colony usually collapses after 10–14 weeks.
The transparent bait station enables monitoring of acceptance & consumption; per room 2 stations per 20 m² placed on runways, near heat sources, but not directly on the ant trail. Leave undisturbed for at least 3 months, replace if emptied/wet and do not use contact insecticides in parallel.
